Oberammergau is located in the southern part of Bavaria. The small town is known to most because of the Passion Play that takes place every 10 years. This amateur play, which goes back to a vow from the plague in Oberammergau in 1633, shapeing the history and appearance of the village. Numerous scenes of the play are immortalized on the façades of the houses comparable to 3-D paintings. These wall paintings give the village its characteristic appearance.
